Bowman County is home to many herds of antelope, mule deer and white tail deer, as well as the majestic pheasant. During the hunting season, Bowman County is home to many out-of-state hunters as well as North Dakotans. With many different types of game to choose from, Bowman County is a sportsman’s paradise year round.

Cedar Ridge Elk

Cedar Ridge Elk provides guided hunts on a private ranch and herd in the beautiful badlands of southwestern North Dakota. The abundance of cedar trees provides cover for the elk which makes your hunt very challenging.

Dakota Winds Hunting

Dakota Winds Hunting has a long standing reputation as a pheasant outfitter. Over 10,000 acres of CRP, creek bottom land, cattail sloughs, milo, millet, and corn food plots are available to hunt. Although pheasants are the main game, sharptail grouse, and Hungarian partridge are also common and can be taken on hunts.

Accommodations are available in a large renovated barn as well as several houses for rent. No group is too large and you will experience a true North Dakota bird hunt.

Private Land Open To Sportsmen (PLOTS): A PLOTS guide book is available at the Bowman County Courthouse (701-523-3130). The annual PLOTS guide locates lands open to hunting through agreements between the ND Game and Fish Department and private landowners, as well as public lands such as wildlife management and waterfowl production areas. PLOTS maps change frequently as new tracts are added and others are removed, so be sure to stop and get a current guide book.

Water Recreation

With numerous lakes and dams in Bowman and Slope Counties it truly is a fishermen’s paradise year round.

Bowman Haley Dam

Bowman Haley Dam is Bowman County’s largest body of water. Amenities and 17 miles of shoreline make for a year-round recreational haven. Electrical Campsites, seasonal Marina, boat ramp, and shelters.

Boating and fishing are top activities for visitors to Bowman Haley. Variety is available in your possible catches with Bluegill, Brown Trout, Muskie, Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Tiger Muskie, Walleye, White Bass or Yellow Perch taking up residence in the dam. If you don’t have your pole in the water, you might be enjoying water skiing or tubing on the lake.

 

Electrical camping sites can be reserved by contacting the Marina 701-275-6316 and are $15 per night or primitive camping is available you just need to register at the Marina. There are primitive bathrooms available year-round and full bathrooms during business hours of marina.

Cedar Lake

Cedar Lake is a reservoir located just 22 miles from Bowman. Fishermen will find a variety of fish including rainbow trout, largemouth bass, pickerel, bullhead, perch, and brown trout here. Whether you’re spinning, baitcasting, or fly fishing your chances of getting a bite here are good. Boat ramp, primitive bathrooms, primitive camping, and picnic shelters are available.

Davis Dam

Davis Dam is located in Slope County just 16 miles west and 4 miles north of Amidon near Walser Crossing with a maximum depth of 25 feet and an average depth of 10 feet. Here you will find a large variety of fish including rainbow trout (stocked annually), largemouth bass, and bluegill. No boat ramp available.

Gascoyne Lake

Gascoyne Lake features an easily accessible dock and shore line right off of Highway 12. Great for smaller watercraft, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding. Fish include bluegill, northern pike, and yellow perch. A quiet lake with picnic shelters, primitive bathrooms, primitive camping, and lots of prairie surrounding.

Kalina Dam

Kalina Dam, just 4.6 miles from Bowman features 1.5 miles of shoreline, gorgeous grasslands, and plenty of fish. The dam has been stocked with several types of fish throughout the years and you can expect to catch a variety of fish including Bluegill, Northern Pike, and Yellow Perch. Grab a chair, hammock, or blanket and take in a beautiful North Dakota sunset from the shoreline. You’ll see plenty of wildlife while enjoying your time here!

Kalina Dam Map

Lutz Dam

Lutz Dam is located just 2.5 miles south and 2 miles west of Griffin. This lake is three acres in size and approximately 14 feet deep at its deepest point. Expect to catch Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, and Trout. No ramp access.

Spring Lake

Spring Lake is a reservoir in Bowman County just 1 mile south and 4 miles west of Rhame. This 41 acre lake is approximately 16 feet deep at its deepest point and is known for Northern Pike and Yellow Perch. Enjoy over 3 miles of shoreline with boat ramp access.
