Pioneer Trails Regional Museum is dedicated to the preservation of local and regional history for future generations through seven categories: Local History, The Prairie Walk, Genealogy, Paleontology, Native American History, Military History, and Archeology.
Guided Tours of Fossil Sites and Paleontological Activities
Join our museum personnel as we visit fossil bearing sites ranging in age from 90 to 30 million years. Tour participants will be allowed time for supervised collecting at designated sites. Participants will learn about the ancient environments in which these animals and plants lived. Get a first hand look into what the field of paleontology is all about. PTRM Tour Information : The tours are open to individuals and family groups. Participants will be spending the day at a current scientific study area, not a tourist site. You will be observing the activities of the museum personnel and assist them in their collection, excavation, and recording of data and fossils. Attendees will be allowed to do some minor collecting, but will not be able to take home any souvenirs from the field. You may bring along cameras, video equipment, etc. Tours are held on weekends May through September. Reservations required.
