Bowman County Development Releases Annual Report

For the first time, the Bowman County Development Corporation has produced an annual report for distribution. The report highlights several of the BCDC projects from the past year and also features some of the smaller sideline projects that many people might not associate with the organization.

Locally, the BCDC serves two major functions, which in a larger community would require two separate organizations. The first function is as a Job Development Authority or Development Corporation. In larger communities, Development Associations work strictly with large industry, targeting primary sector development. In smaller communities, the focus tends to be more on small business development and community enhancement.

The other focus of the BCDC is community marketing and tourism.  Larger cities have a stand alone Convention and Visitors Bureau for this task.  Locally, the BCDC often partners with the Bowman Area Chamber of Commerce to produce community marketing materials, such as the bowmannd.com website, create and distribute relocation, hunting or visitor packets, develop visitor information guides and answer phone calls, emails and other inquiries regarding Bowman County. Specifically, the Bowman Area Chamber together with Tax and Tourism operate the visitors information center located along HWY 85 and 12 during the summer months.

One last function of the BCDC mentioned in the Annual Report is the role it plays with the Bowman County Fairgrounds and All Seasons Arena.  Booking of the facilities is handled through the BCDC and Chamber office along with record keeping and other small tasks.
