With excitement, Tot-Lot Childcare, Inc. recently broke ground on a new daycare center. The new facility, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012, will be located on a site donated by Southwest Healthcare. The site is located next to SWHC's ambulance building on the hospital and clinic campus.
The building for the new center is being donated through the generosity of Ken and Joyce Luff, on behalf of Luff Exploration Co. and their employees.
Bowman County has had a great demand for childcare that was a growing concern for employers and working families alike. After learning of the critical need for childcare, the Luff's decided to give back to the community that has been home to their business since the 1970's.
"We are still receiving a number of calls each week looking for daycare," said Dee Dobitz, Director of Tot-Lot Childcare. "We are hoping to expand our enrollment to between 30 and 35, with the possibility of increasing that number in the future. This all hinges on staffing."
Tot-Lot currently employees 7 and will be adding a college student for the summer. This project will be an economic boost to Bowman, while it meets an ongoing need in the community.
Once the facility is completed, Tot-Lot, which is a Non-Profit Corporation and its volunteer Board of Directors, will be responsible for furnishing the building and the 2 playgrounds. They will be holding several fund-raisers in the coming months including the F.R.O.G. (Fastest Round of Golf) on June 9th at Sweetwater Golf Course; club cleaning at the Bowman Energy Golf Tournament: a Rummage Sale; concessions at the Car Show; and currently, they are selling hot/cold gel pack Penguins.
"Since construction stared we've had donations from our dirt contractor and one of his drivers, in memory of his late wife," said Lynn Brackel, Tot-Lot's Project Manager. "It was a kind gesture that they came up with themselves, it was very thoughtful."
Anyone wishing to support this endeavor can contact Tot-Lot at 523-4265 or 703 4th St N.W. in Bowman.
According to Dobitz, "We have already received many generous donations and memorials as well as offers of in-kind help and yearly pledges, but we still need a lot of assistance. And, because of our non-profit status, donations are tax deductible. We couldn't be doing this without the amazing generosity of the Luff's and Luff Exploration Co. and the continuing support of Bowman and the surrounding community."
