The Bowman County Commissioners have issued a Burn Declaration authorizing the fire chief of each district to determine if burning will be allowed within their district.

At an elevation of 3,192 feet Rhame is the highest of all cities in ND and was named for Mitchell Davison Rhame, a district engineer for the railroad.

Scranton was founded in 1907 along the Milwaukee Rail and was named after Scranton, PA - like that city, it was located within a region of coal mining.

For much of the 20th century, Gascoyne was the site of a coal mine with the most active period between 1975 and 1995 when about 2.5 million tons of lignite were produced per year.
